When shopping online for that next must-have toy or food for your four-legged furriend, Yelp reviews may not exactly be what you need.
After raising Shadow and Peaches, we have definitely gone through a number of great products that have made their lives so much better.
Below are six of our favorite products that will truly make pawtastic additions for you and your pack.
- BABYLTRL Big Dog Harness No Pull Adjustable Pet Reflective Oxford Soft Vest for Large Dogs Easy Control Harness
Both Shadow and Peaches have used different sizes of this harness and have become expert trail dogs while we have avoided having our arms pulled off. Shadow wears a size large and Peaches a size medium.
The biggest thing with this harness is that there are ways to avoid creating too much tension as any pull is distributed across the body to prevent choking.
For active puppies, the harness provides a good start for establishing walking habits that ensure you and your dog aren’t going out of control. The other key thing with the harness is that it provides a lot of security as it is nearly impossible to get out of with dogs best described as escape artists. - Sojos Simply Lamb Freeze-Dried Dog Treats
Whether you need some toppers to encourage your dog to eat or you are looking for training treats that will always motivate your puppy, these delicious treats from Sojos are the thing that will whet any picky dog’s appetite.
These lamb treats have been award-winning favorites in our household since we discovered them when Shadow was ~9 months old.
Both Peaches and Shadow can be incredibly picky when it comes to training treats so finding something they like is definitely something worth sharing with others. - Max and Neo Dog Gear Nylon Reflective Double Dog Leash
When it comes to leashes, there are a number of great brands and you can’t go wrong with a lot of different kinds, whether it is a slip lead, hands-free, or a standard leash.
The biggest differentiator for us with Peaches and Shadow has been getting a leash that has a handle on it. For both of these active Siberian Huskies, having an extra measure of control with the handle has proved invaluable and we have used it often to ensure they’re good around people, dogs, and critters while they’ve been in training. - Royal Canin Large Joint Care Dry Dog Food, 30-lb bag
For Shadow and now Peaches, we’ve chosen to give them kibble with Royal Canin providing a nutritious solution for us.
Both dogs have eventually become big fans of the product and we’ve been impressed with how healthy the two have been while eating the food as they’ve had no dietary issues, which wasn’t true with Shadow when he was a younger puppy. Admittedly, he also had an extended case of giardia. - Coolaroo Steel-Framed Elevated Dog Bed
Huskies, including Shadow and Peaches, typically enjoy sleeping on harder surfaces and Coolaroo’s elevated dog bed has provided both of them a great space to sleep inside as well as outside.
Peaches has especially become a big fan of the beds, frequently taking a daily round of naps on Coolaroo. Coolaroo makes a great product for dogs that enjoy sleeping on non-traditional dog beds but we do want to warn dog pawrents that these are incredibly difficult to put together so set aside a lot of time and patience. For all of these efforts though, your dog will definitely thank you. - Musher’s Secret Paw Protection Natural Dog Wax
Musher’s dog wax is incredibly good at protecting the paws of active dogs and for Peaches and Shadow, it has been a lifesaver in protecting each foot. With any dog that hits the trails or plays hard, Musher’s can provide the exact thing you need to avoid paw injuries.
Not all of these products may be applicable for you and your new pup but we hope these recommendations will help you as you and your new pack member begin to make a lifetime of memories together.
